ABSTRACT: Pipeline damage in past earthquakes that cannot be attributed to permanent ground displacement has typically been attributed to strong ground shaking, specifically the generation of transient ground strains by the propagation of seismic waves reaching the ground surface. This study investigates the possible effects of transient ground shaking on natural gas pipeline damage.
