Seminar Invite: Recent advances in climate and disaster risk analysis to better manage growing risk, extreme events and inequity

The B. John Garrick Institute for the Risk Sciences cordially invites you to attend Dr. David Lallemant’s seminar on “Recent advances in climate and disaster risk analysis to better manage growing risk, extreme events and inequity.” The seminar will take place on December 14, 2022 from 1-2pm PT in Engineering 6 Building, Cohen-134 and via Zoom.

Biography: Dr. David Lallemant is a Nanyang Assistant Professor and heads the Disaster Analytics for Society Lab (DASL) at Nanyang Technological University and the Earth Observatory of Singapore. His research focuses on climate and multi-hazard risk analysis and post-disaster impact. Areas of focus include urban risk and resilience, gender and socially-equitable risk analysis methods, nature-based solutions for risk reduction, rapid post-disaster assessment, climate risk in the private sector, and other topics. He uses hazard modeling, engineering analysis, machine learning, and spatial statistics to understand and quantify the impacts of natural hazards on communities today and in the future. Prior to joining NTU, Dr. Lallemant was a research engineer at Stanford University, where he also founded the Stanford Urban Resilience Initiative. He holds a PhD from Stanford University, a MSc from UC Berkeley and a BSc from MIT (2007). Dr. Lallemant was awarded the Nation Research Foundation Fellowship, the Nanyang Award for Humanitarian Work, the Data Innovation for Sustainable Development Award, and others. He is also founder and inaugural chair of the Averted Disaster Award.
